Reeth Strips

An extensive settlement area existed in reeth from the late Bronze Age, through the Iron Age until recent times. Cultivation terracing, as seen here are signs of man's earliest attempts to grow crops in adverse locations, such as the natural slope of this hill. Cultivation terracing clearly involved a significant investment in manpower. Were it not for the lure of Lead from the mines nearbye this area would have been almost deserted in this period.
